Too much clutter in your home can add to your stress levels. Science has already proven that. Even so, it’s easy to forget that there is more to keeping your home clean than dealing with clutter. Here are some tips on how to manage all of it and still have time to relax!
Cut Down the Clutter
Clutter is the enemy. One way to feel better is to minimize it. Some clutter is going to be unavoidable, but expert use of storage space will help this improve. Think about what you can afford to part with, and what you want to keep. Clothes, electronics, and other items, such as kitchen gadgets, can take up more room than necessary. Pay them forward by donating or giving away to friends or family that could benefit from them.
Mind the Small Details
Overlooking small details can be a bad thing, but it doesn’t always have to be the case! Most of your efforts will be focused on the larger rooms in the house – living room, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Closets, shower curtains, bedding, and laundry all need some freshening up too!
Refresh the Air
It can get stuffy when you need to keep all of your windows closed. Even on cold days, letting in some fresh air is still a good idea. Double-check on the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are still working. Put new filters in furnaces and HVAC units. Once all of that is done, check on the external vents attached to your home and clean them off too.
Stick to a Plan
Before you get going, make a plan. Whether it is a checklist or a spreadsheet, both can help you keep track of what you’ve accomplished and what still needs to be done. Since it takes around three weeks to create a new habit, keep it going through the rest of January and February and see where your new skills and habits take you for the rest of 2020!
