5 Things You Should Do to Get Ready for Fall

fall

Is your home ready for fall?

The air is getting chilly, the store shelves are full of fall candles in delightful cinnamon and pumpkin scents, and homework is piling up on your student’s desk. All of these things point to one thing—fall is here! How can you prepare for the change of the seasons to ensure that you, your family, and your home are ready for fall?

Perform Your Fall Maintenance Prep

Fall means piles and piles of leaves for homeowners with trees in their yard, so before the season starts and store shelves start to empty, check your rake and leaf blower. Make sure that both are in usable and good working condition. Once leaves begin to fall, rake or use your leaf blower regularly to prevent more work later (and huge soggy piles of leaves destroying your lawn!).

Take a Walk Around Your Home

Before leaves start clogging your gutters, get on a ladder and make sure that your gutters and roof are in good condition after a long summer full of rain and thunderstorms. Roof issues are highly repairable during the fall but get trickier once winter begins. Any roof issues should be treated as you get ready for fall and before winter will dump inches of snow and ice onto it. Gutters should also be inspected to make sure that they are in good working condition and not leaking or clogged already. Gutter repairs should also be completed before the winter begins, as melting ice and snow demand a lot of your drainage system.

Fill Your Freezer

The end of summer and beginning of fall is the perfect time to take advantage of your garden (okay, or the grocery store) harvest and can or freeze fresh fruit and vegetables. Take advantage of the end of summer sales to get ready for fall by purchasing mason jars and canning supplies. Canning takes a good deal of elbow grease, but you will appreciate all of your hard work when you can enjoy delicious canned produce from your pantry on chilly winter days.
