Tips for Cleaning Your Kitchen Appliances

When was the last time you cleaned out your kitchen appliances?

When was the last time you cleaned out your kitchen appliances? If you can’t remember it’s time to take some notes. Keeping your appliances clean is essential to making sure they remain safe and functional for years to come. Especially since many of your favorite kitchen appliances are the perfect breeding grounds for all kinds of mold and bacteria. Today we’ll run through how to clean some of the most common kitchen appliances easily.

Food Processor and Blender

Start by removing the blades and any other water-safe removable parts, placing them in warm soapy water to soak. The bowl or carafe may be hand washed and set aside to dry, or placed in the top rack of a dishwasher if it is dishwasher safe. Next, carefully remove the blades from the bath and give them a thorough scrub before setting them out to dry. The blades must be thoroughly dry before being put away to prevent rust. Finally, wipe down the base and any remaining mess with a damp cloth and dish soap.

Coffee Maker

As potentially the dirtiest item in your home your coffee maker should be cleaned at least once a month. Start by cleaning out the carafe and filter, they should be soaked in warm soapy water and given a good scrub before being rinsed. Next, you will descale the system by filling the reservoir with a mix of half water half white vinegar. Run the system halfway before turning it off and letting it sit for thirty minutes to an hour, then resume the cycle. Dump out your vinegar mix and run the coffee cycle twice with clean water to remove any vinegar. Finally, wipe the exterior with s damp cloth and let everything dry.

Toaster and Toaster Oven

When your toaster fills with crumbs, it can become an unpleasant smelling fire hazard, fortunately giving it a clean is easier than you might think. Start by unplugging the device while cool and empty the crumb tray. Remove racks if possible and let them soak in warm soapy water before scrubbing loose any stuck food. For a toaster oven, you can clean the interior with a wet washcloth, using a toothbrush or old credit card to scrape loose any debris. For a traditional toaster use a damp pastry brush to clean the interior. Clean any knobs and the exterior with a soapy cloth getting nay tight areas with a toothbrush.
