Tips for Clearing Up Common Summertime Messes

Tips for Clearing Up Common Summertime Messes

Here are some tips for preventing those common summertime messes that are bound to happen.

The season of fun in the sun is right around the corner. Schools are about to be out, the kids will be home, and the messes will be legendary. It’s just a fact of the summer. But that doesn’t mean you have to make yourself crazy living in a messy home. Here are some tips for preventing those common summertime messes that are bound to happen.

Wet Swimwear

The highlight of the summer for most kids is the opening of the pool and any trips there make for a great day. When they’re done swimming, they pile into the car with wet swimwear either on their bodies or in their hands. Usually, this includes a wet towel, which may or may not have a crumpled bathing suit inside it. If it gets forgotten in the back of the car, it will be a stinky and possibly even moldy mess by the next day, especially in the summer heat. Prevent this before it happens by setting up a clothesline or a towel rack by the door. Have everyone hang their own wet stuff up before they come inside so nothing gets forgotten. This will also help extend the life of their swimsuits since they’re not being laundered as often. Making sure this gets done each day is also a great age-appropriate chore for the kids.

Sand That Gets Everywhere

Going to the beach is great, but cleaning up all of the sand in the car because the beach tried to come home with you is not. The only way to tackle the mess is with a strong vacuum, but you can help limit the mess by being proactive. Line the trunk and the floor of the car with extra large trash bags and the seats with extra towels to catch any rogue sand. You can also bring along a shoeshine brush to use to brush off the extra sand before everyone piles back into the car.

Food Messes

Summer often means cooking outside on the grill, and while this definitely means less time spent cleaning the kitchen, it doesn’t mean an end of food messes. Food that spills onto the grill can become a huge cooked-on mess. You can prevent this by lining it with aluminum foil that you can rip off and throw away when you’re done the cooking. If you’d like a less wasteful option, you could invest in a reusable grill mat.
